Beginning and maintaining a relationship with God can sometimes be a bit tough. Not because God makes the requirements difficult, but because as humans, we often fail to make ourselves available to God. We occupy our time doing everything except dedicating time to our creator.

At times we deceive ourselves and begin to think that God isn't in close enough reach, we sinned too much to approach Him, or that we can just talk to someone who is connected to God to get our answers. But none of those things are true!

We simply have to make God the priority in our lives so that when He speaks we are within proximity to hear Him. God is constantly trying to get our attention and we ignore Him as if He is a guy in our DM who we have no interest in.

So let’s look at it like this; what if you knew Rihanna was calling you? (I know all of you may not like Rihanna, so substitute her for someone else.) If Rihanna or a person we admire was calling, you’d do everything you could speak to her. You would get to a place that has good reception, ignore everything else, and put your phone on the highest volume and vibration setting so that you would not miss the call!

There’s nothing wrong with going the extra mile to speak to someone we admire, as long as you are going that extra mile plus more for God.

You get to have a relationship with your creator, so why would you pass up the opportunity? He actually wants you to talk to Him about anything and everything that is on your mind. Whether it is about school, work, guys, or even hair and makeup. What’s even better is that He will actually respond to what you are saying. The issue is that God speaks to us again and again, but people do not recognize it. (Job 33:14)

When was the last time that you ignored everyone and everything just to get alone with God. Have you recently checked to see if you have good reception or do you need to take a few steps to get into a position to clearly hear Him? Can you recall the last time that you were so pressed to be in the presence of God?

But I’m sure you can recall the last time you made yourself available to speak to a friend. I bet that you had time to get alone with that cute guy you like. And I’m pretty positive you’ve put your phone on the loudest setting when that employer was calling for that job you wanted.

If you begin to train your mind to understand that God is above every other person or thing, you’ll then begin to discipline yourself to be in His presence more often. The more you are in His presence the clearer His voice will become for you to grow a stronger relationship. Once you know what it feels like to have a close relationship with God you’ll check yourself whenever you begin to drift out of ear shot range from hearing Him.

Then the question will arise within you, What if Rihanna was calling?
